What Narrative Lab is
Narrative Lab is an AI-assisted service that turns a topic you choose into a book: a story in chapters, with research notes and a cover. The text and the cover are produced by AI models from your brief. Some books also show research images from public archives such as Wikimedia Commons, which keep their own licences. Anyone can read the books in the public library without an account.
Your account
You need an account, through Google sign-in, to explore topics, create books, and use or buy credits. You are responsible for what is done through your account, so keep your Google account secure.
Credits
- Credits are prepaid product credits for creating books on Narrative Lab. They are not money and have no cash value, and they cannot be transferred to another account or exchanged for cash. A purchase may be refunded under the Refund policy.
- You get credits by buying a pack, by redeeming a promotional code, or when Narrative Lab grants them.
- Each book’s price in credits depends on its length and is shown before you create it. When you start a book, that price is held from your balance. It is fixed for that book.
- The credits are spent once the book is published. If the generation fails without the book being published, they are normally returned to your balance automatically. This is not always immediate.
- Prices of packs and books may change for future purchases and books. A change never affects a book already started.
Generated books
Books are written by AI, and their covers are made by AI. They can contain factual mistakes, invented or misattributed details, inaccurate sources, or material you did not expect or may find inappropriate. This also applies to a chapter’s research notes, including what they mark as documented. Books are for reading and learning, not professional advice. Check anything important against reliable sources.
Your briefs and your use of books
- You are responsible for what you put in a brief. Do not include material you have no right to share, or personal information about other people.
- You are responsible for how you use the books you create. You may use them for personal and other lawful purposes. Research images keep their own licences.
- We do not guarantee that a generated book is original, unique or free of other people’s rights. Similar material may be produced for others.
Public and private books
When you create a book, you choose whether it is public or private. A public book can be read by anyone and shown in the library and on the homepage. This covers its title, cover, text and the creator name you entered, if any. By making a book public, you allow Narrative Lab to host and display it on the site.
A private book does not appear in the public library, and you can open it when signed in. It is not hidden from Narrative Lab: the people who run the service can open every book, and so can anyone Narrative Lab gives private reading access to. To change a book’s visibility or have it removed, write to us. We may make any book private or remove it.
Acceptable use
Do not use Narrative Lab to:
- break the law or infringe other people’s rights;
- create material that sexualises minors, or that harasses or threatens people, or promotes violence or hatred against them;
- get around credits, limits or access controls, or disrupt or overload the service.
We may remove books, and refuse service to an account, when it is used this way.
Availability and liability
We do not guarantee that Narrative Lab will be available, that a generation will succeed, or how long a book will take. Book creation can be paused, and features, prices and limits can change.
To the extent the law allows, Narrative Lab is provided as it is, without warranties, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the service or of generated books. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the law that cannot be limited.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows when they last changed. Questions: support@narrative-lab.app. See also the Privacy page and the Refund policy.
